NDTA President concerned about SD68 facilities plan

The President of the Nanaimo District Teachers Association says he’s concerned about SD68’s updated facilities plan.

Staff recommendations include closing and consolidating schools in an effort to save money and procure new funding from the province.

Mike Ball says one aspect of that plan is particularly worrisome.

Ball says the problem comes down to under-funding, and the school board is being forced to reduce operating costs by closing schools.

Trustees will vote on the recommendations at their upcoming meeting on December 1st.
