Tough decisions still to come after SD68 releases updated facilities plan

Nanaimo-Ladysmith School Trustees have some tough decisions to make, after getting a look an updated facilities plan Tuesday night.

The staff recommendations follow a 60-day consultation, involving more than a dozen public meetings and information sessions.

They include consolidating North Cedar Intermediate and Woodbank primary at Woodbank, and reopening Mount Benson Elementary to accommodate the Learn at Home programs.

Board Chair Steve Rae says both those recommendations show staff listened to people’s input.

Other recommendations include closing Rutherford Elementary, and building a new wing at Frank Ney, as well as closing Woodlands Secondary and moving the hockey, soccer and beach volleyball academies to NDSS, and moving the Elementary Skills for Life program to Georgia Avenue.
