A new report on child poverty in British Columbia says the Sunshine Coast is doing a lot better than many areas, but that doesn’t mean there’s not a problem.
The study by First Call: BC Child and Youth Advocacy Coalition says in 2013, 22.9 per cent of Children in the SCRD were in low income families; an improvement from 2012, but higher than the national rate of 19 per cent.

The Coalition’s Adrienne Montani says a lack of affordable child care is a big contributor to the problem.
The Nanaimo region has similar rates, which was highlighted as a major issue last week when the Greater Nanaimo Early Years Partnership released its “State of the Child” report.
