Re-use of treated water from Sechelt’s Water Resource Centre still a work in progress

The drought and Stage 4 water restrictions on much of the Sunshine Coast have more people taking an interest in Sechelt’s new sewage treatment plant; the Water Resource Centre.

The plan to re-use treated water from the biggest infrastructure project in District history has been there since the beginning (and is part of the reasoning behind the name)

But the current water situation is prompting many to ask “when” and “how”?

During an update for Council this week, facility manager Paul Nash said they’re already working on a permit for industrial uses, including adding a filling station where truck can load.

He also told councillors the test results since the plant went fully on-line back in May have shown the treated water is easily meeting the standards for re-use.

Using the water for things like sports fields and landscaping isn’t likely to go forward until sometime in 2016, after public consultations.
