Grants for water project in RDN, docks in SCRD, Sechelt Library

The Regional District of Nanaimo is getting $290-thousand from the federal and provincial governments for a water project in Whiskey Creek.

The money will go towards upgrading the existing Whiskey Creek Water System, to boost treatment capacity.

RDN Chair Joe Stanhope says they’re also going to look for a groundwater source in the area, because Crocker Creek isn’t reliable anymore.

Stanhope says the money from the Small Communities Fund means residents won’t have to pay the entire cost of the project through taxation. That cost is estimated at $436-thousand.

The federal government also announced some big grants for the Sunshine Coast on Monday, from the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program.
