As of 8:22 Monday night the Coastal Fire Centre had the Old Sechelt Mine fire at 250 hectares – about triple the estimate of late Sunday.
But, the fire is moving North-Northwest still, away from Sechelt, and fire breaks on the South, West and East are holding and the fire is 40 per cent contained.
To ensure the safety of crews working in the area, the Halfmoon-Carlson FSR has been closed until further notice.
Meanwhile, the Carlson Point properties that have been on evacuation alert since last Friday are now under evacuation order:
The order applies to 21 waterfront properties on the shores of Sechelt Inlet. It is effective immediately.
The SCRD says 8 residents have been living in the mainly seasonal homes. Some already left the area voluntarily last week.
The Old Sechelt Mine wildfire, which has now grown to 150 hectares is threatening to cut off roads into the properties.
Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue Station 12 crews are out delivering the notices.
A reception centre has been set up at the Sunshine Coast Regional District’s Field Road building.
The SCRD has a 24-hour info line at 604-885-6800.
