Simons says ALR rules around breweries are flawed

New Agricultural Land Reserve rules have been touted as a boon for craft brewers, they’re putting one area brewery in a bind.

The NDP MLA for Powell River Sunshine Coast says it’s another sign the government isn’t listening when it comes to agriculture.

The new rules allow a brewery on ALR land, but it has to grow 50% of the ingredients on the property.

Nicholas Simons is on the “Opposition Standing Committee on Agriculture”. He says that completely ignores how beer is made.

The Sunshine Coast’s Persephone Brewing has been operating on ALR land since it opened. It grows some hops, but no other beer ingredients.
