Sunshine Coast Centre of RASC opens new observatory, starts fundraising for next step

The Sunshine Coast Centre of the Royal Astronomical Society is celebrating the opening of their new observatory, and they’re already looking to expand the facility.

Right now the building near the Sechelt Airport has a telescope platform with a sliding roof and enough room for astronomers to make observations.

President Charles Ennis says they hope to add a “warm room” to give them a place to work in comfort once winter comes around, and space to hold classes and welcome tour groups.

Ennis says they’re hoping to raise about 3-thousand dollars.

They’ve set up a Go Fund Me page is called “Classroom for the SCC Observatory“.
