Province, forest companies, offering more marmot money

The province says it’s going to spend 135-thousand dollars over the next two years to help the Marmot Recovery Foundation  boost populations of the endangered Vancouver Island Marmot.

Right now the healthiest populations are in the Nanaimo Lakes area, Strathcona Park and Mount Washington.

Cheyney Jackson is the Field Coordinator for the project. She says some of the money will go to the captive breeding program.

Forestry companies Island Timberlands and TimberWest are also offering a combined 70 thousand dollars in funding to the Foundation.
