Sea to Sky Marine Trail open to paddlers

Paddlers in canoes, kayaks and even a couple of stand up paddle boards gathered on the Gibsons waterfront Sunday to mark the official opening of the Sea to Sky Marine Trail.

The 40 kilometre paddling route links communities around Howe Sound.

It includes six new provincial marine recreation sites, meaning people travelling by canoe or kayak are never more than a day’s paddle from a campsite.

Gord McKeever is the project manager.

Celia Robben of Sunshine Coast Tourism says they’re expecting it to attract a lot of visitors, although they won’t necessarily be able to track numbers.

The project is a partnership between the province, First Nations, local governments, and the BC Marine Trail Networks Association.
