Nanaimo transferring 911 PSAP to E-Comm in Vancouver

Nanaimo Council has voted to transfer the City’s 911 Primary Safety Answering Point (PSAP) to E-Comm in Vancouver.

The move is meant to save the city money.

It means E-Comm will be responsible when it comes to purchasing “next generation” technology, which the City would otherwise have to pay for.

There will be no noticeable change for people calling 911, and emergency service dispatch will still be handled locally for each respective agency, including Nanaimo FireComm.

E-Comm is the also current 911 provider for the Sunshine Coast.
