Simons says suspension of Malaspina Coach Lines service exposes weak point in transportation system

Powell River Sunshine Coast MLA Nicholas Simons says losing Malaspina Coach Lines service along Highway 101 – even if it is just temporary – highlights gaps in public transit.

Malaspina suspended the service last Sunday amid reports a bus had been seized by bailiffs.

Simons says it’s left a lot of people with no option.

It’s also an uncertain time for bus service on the Island.

Greyhound is planning to cancel the Nanaimo – Port Hardy run. Tofino Bus has applied take over of the route would look.

Courtnay mayor Larry Jangula is one of the many local business owners who depend on the freight service.

The public can weigh in on the changes with the Passenger Transportation Board until July 2nd.
