Sechelt commits dollars to tourism initiatives

Tourism initiatives on the Sunshine Coast are getting some money from the District of Sechelt.

Councillors voted this week to give nearly 13-thousand dollars to Sunshine Coast Tourism for destination marketing.

Sunshine Coast Tourism has had to rely on local governments for the bulk of its money, but president Celia Robben  says she hopes that will change soon.

The group is renewing efforts to bring in a room tax.

Sechelt is also contributing 35-hundred dollars to the Travel Ambassadors program and the Visitor Information Park

It’s managed by the Gibsons Chamber of Commerce.

Executive Director Donna McMahon says the Travel Ambassadors are unique, and they’re great bang for the buck.

The Visitor Information Park, near the Langdale ferry terminal, is in line for some landscaping improvements and changes to the signage
