Area MPs have mixed reactions to the federal budget

As expected, Finance Minister Joe Oliver has tabled a balanced budget but local MPs are divided on whether or not it’s what Canada needs.

The budget includes someĀ an increase in Tax Free Savings Account limits, income splitting, and a lowering of minimum withdrawals from Registered Retirement Income Funds.

West Vancouver Sunshine Coast Conservative MP John Weston says that was born out of an idea that was generated locally.

The NDP opposition says it likes that idea, but not the TFSA changes or the income splitting. They claim those won’t help average Canadians.Ā Nanaimo-Cowichan NDP MP Jean Crowder says people need to remember that while the Conservative are out touting their balanced budget this summer.

The NDP also say the budget does nothing for the environment.
