First chance for public to weigh in on medical marijuana production zoning in Sechelt

The District of Sechelt is starting its public engagement on new zoning rules for medical marijuana production Tuesday.

There’s a bylaw on the books right now to restrict it to larger lots in the ALR zone while Council decides whether to allow medical marijuana in other zones as well.

In response to public questions at the last Council meeting, Mayor Bruce Milne said allowing medical marijuana grow-ops in industrial zones developed through practise, not a specific policy

Milne also told Councillors that he’s already getting questions from the industry.

A company called Medma is building a facility on industrial land in Porpoise Bay. The District says future bylaw changes will not affect that operation.
