VICCS launching Heritage & Beautification Project

It’s two years away but the Vancouver Island and Coast Conservation Society is already thinking about Canada’s 150th birthday.

Organizer Laurie Gourlay says they’re launching a Heritage and Beautification project, focusing on rural communities including Cedar, South Wellington, Yellow Point and Cassidy.

Gourlay says they’re going to start by brightening up the communities with some planters, donated by the City of Nanaimo. They’ll also be planting up to 200 Gary Oak trees.

The Society is holding a public meeting on Wednesday to choose some locations for the planters and trees, and talk about other potential projects. It’s at the Cedar Heritage Centre starting at 7:00pm.
